Principal Investigator – Clinical Research
Location: Greater Austin Area, TX
Employment Type: Full-Time, Onsite
Compensation: Approximately $250,000 base + benefits
Schedule: Monday–Friday, standard 8-hour clinic schedule
The Opportunity
We are partnering with a growing site network seeking a full-time Principal Investigator (PI) to join its team in the Greater Austin area.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced physician interested in combining patient care with clinical research. Prior Principal Investigator experience is welcomed but not required for this position. Physicians coming directly from clinical practice who have the right patient population experience and an interest in research are encouraged to apply.
The PI will provide medical oversight for clinical trials while remaining actively involved with patients, research staff, and study-related medical decisions.
Key Responsibilities

Serve as Principal Investigator on assigned clinical research studies

Provide medical oversight throughout the lifecycle of clinical trials

Ensure studies are conducted in accordance with protocols, GCP, regulatory requirements, and patient-safety standards

Evaluate and manage study participants throughout their participation in clinical trials

Review clinical data, laboratory results, adverse events, and other relevant medical information

Assess participant eligibility and provide ongoing medical oversight

Collaborate closely with clinical research coordinators, site leadership, sponsors, and other research professionals

Maintain appropriate source documentation and study records

Participate in sponsor and regulatory meetings as needed

Provide medical guidance to the research team

Support a 24-hour emergency phone line for rare serious adverse events or hospitalizations on a rotating/as-needed basis; this is phone coverage only and does not require returning to the site
Qualifications
Required:
-
MD or DO degree
-
Active, unrestricted Texas medical license in good standing

Board Certified OR Board Eligible in an applicable medical specialty

Minimum of 2 years of post-training clinical practice experience treating patients

No restrictive covenant or non-compete that would interfere with accepting the position

Ability to work onsite full-time in the Greater Austin area

Strong commitment to patient safety and quality clinical care
Highly Preferred:
-
Internal Medicine or Family Medicine background

Experience treating patients with metabolic, hepatic and/or cardiometabolic conditions

Exposure to MASH/MASLD, obesity, diabetes, metabolic disease, or related patient populations

Previous clinical research or Principal Investigator experience

Familiarity with GCP and clinical trial requirements
